General Info
Welcome to the UST Computer Science Club website. The CS Club here at the University of St. Thomas is comprised of roughly 30 students from a variety of majors. Membership is completely open and you're free to join no matter what field of study you're in. Just drop by one of the meetings or email our board members.
All the website navigation is on the left hand side. Stick around and stay a while! Check out our photos to see our members having fun. Create an account and drop by the forums to interact with the club a bit. Learn about the UST Open Source Lab and maybe even get involved with a few of its projects.
To contact the club please email: ust.csclub@gmail.com. If you request to be on the club mailing list, you will also get you on the inside track to recruiters on campus, work study positions, grant work, and a lot of other valuable information.
Our Mission
Our mission is to bring together students and faculty with an interest in computer science to volunteer our shared knowledge and energy to the global community in hopes of advancing the common good.
What we do
We are here to enhance the computer science learning environment at UST. Some of the ways which we try to achieve these goals have been:
- Hosting speakers knowledgeable in the field of computer science
- Participating in IBM's "Master the Mainframe" contest
- Developing the UST OpenCD and distributing it to the UST community
- Encouraging the growth of undergraduate research within the QMCS Department
Not everything is business, though. We’re always having fun and doing nerdy things. We think you’d have a blast if you joined the club. We host social events which have included:
- LAN parties (We often play Starcraft, Quake 3, Frozen Bubble, etc.)
- Going to the theaters to see movies
- Random tournaments like dodge ball, volleyball, or bowling
Finally, we volunteer our skills to the global community. In the past our service projects have been:
- Mississippi riverside cleanup with UST's Green Team club
- Helping the UST Alumni Association with its implementation of technology
- Joining the Alumni Association in their neighborhood cleanup project
Our Future
It's bright, and it's wide open :) The Open Source Lab (OSL) in OSS 429 has been growing steadily and we're starting to see a tangible influence in the department. We hope to grow the OSL significantly in the years to come.
We also hope that the undergraduate research program within the QMCS department becomes lively and active. We hope to grow this aspect of the department in the years to come as well.
We aren't lying when we say it's wide open though. If you have a software project you've dreamt up, you want to play with fancy hardware, or you want to get some random software running in a test environment on our existing hardware we'd love to host it and accommodate. Just say the word!
