Any thoughts on the Free Software Foundation's release of gNewSense

"gNewSense (http://www.gnewsense.org) is a free software GNU/Linux distribution created by two Irish free software advocates, Brian Brazil and Paul O'Malley, and is based on the Ubuntu and Debian distributions. The goal of gNewSense is to provide users with a software package that offers the stability of Ubuntu with the addition of freedom."

"A GNU/Linux project, to take all the binary blobs out of a rather popular distribution and make it all free. In doing so we have also produced a set of scripts that allow anyone to create a GNU/Linux Distribution."

Seems the Free Software Foundation is getting angry with the direction the majority of Linux is heading. Thoughts? I'd like to build what they have on one of the OSL machines and see what it entails, what "binary bits" they're taking out.

Thanksgiving Dinner Meeting!

11/16/2006 - 12:00pm
11/16/2006 - 1:00pm
Etc/GMT-6

To end all discussion on bad Dominos pizza (jk, it will still exist) we will be having a Thanksgiving feast! We're aiming to make this the shining star meeting for 1st semester :) Most importantly we can mark it in everyone's mind that the Computer Science Club rules, we do fun stuff, and we have good food... sometimes :)

We will have a speaker here to talk about Linux, specifically the Fedora distribution of Linux. The meeting will be in OSS 313

Food is under discussion, if anyone has any ideas please email the board. We're currently looking into a scenario for food that would be easy to coordinate the day of but still be an impressive meal.

2nd LAN Party!

11/11/2006 - 7:30pm
11/12/2006 - 2:00am
Etc/GMT-6

LAN party at Reid's house! This time we won't be put to bed nice and early by UST at 11:00PM :) We'll be focusing on Quake 3 and Starcraft again. Hopefully I'll have things more streamlined this time... in a dedicated server kind of way. Here is my address... pretty tricky to find from UST, I know.

*** Map to Reid's house removed. No internet stalkers needed :) ***

*Note: There will be no alcohol at the event :( It's still a UST "club event" and we will have none of that on my watch ;)
